--The Shawshank Redemption.
David Boyd Stebelton, age 53, died of natural causes at his Lancaster home Sept. 15, 2025. Born Dec. 13, 1971 in Columbus, Ohio, to Gerald and Rebecca Stebelton, David was a lifelong resident of Lancaster. He had many happy memories of neighborhood friends and shenanigans as he grew up on Scott Drive and East Allen Street, and one of his favorite pastimes in recent years was sitting outside with friends as the neighborhood dogs ran and played together.
David was passionate about all things Fairfield County – from the Fairfield County Fair to the Lancaster Festival to the July 4th Fireworks to Destination Downtown Lancaster and all of its events. He loved to travel, and Key West, Florida, and North Carolina’s Outer Banks were among his favorite destinations. He was a tremendous fan of Neal Peart and RUSH, and also enjoyed traveling the country to take in the band’s spectacular shows. A proud graduate of the Lancaster High School Class of 1990, David was a member of the LHS Band of Gold and Percussion Ensemble. He co-chaired many class reunions and gatherings with his beloved classmates.
David attended the University of North Texas and was also a graduate of Ohio University, where he majored in Marketing and was strongly influenced by Dr. Stephen Fuller, who inspired his business and marketing career. David was employed by Lancaster Bingo (LBC) and the Ohio Lottery, and was the founder and owner of his own company, Audio Video Innovations.
David is survived by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Jeff Mason, of Pickerington; and the light of his life, his niece Caroline Mason, of Columbus. He is also survived by aunts and uncles Steve and Linda Smith, Mark Stebelton and Barbara Mitchell, as well as numerous cousins and many close friends. Additionally, he was loved by two English Labrador Retrievers – Zoee and Allee -- who had his heart. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob and Jane Smith, Escalene Bowsher and John Stebelton; as well as his aunt, Sheri Hall.
Funeral service will take place Thurs., Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 222 N. Broad St., Lancaster, Ohio. Lunch and an opportunity to gather with family and friends will take place at the church at the conclusion of the service. A private family burial will take place in Amanda Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Fairfield Area Humane Society or the First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, where David grew up and continued to appreciate online worship services.
