Lancaster: Elza F. Wears, 88 passed away on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 at the Pickering House. He led a full and rich life in Lancaster, Ohio. Elza was a United States Navy serviceman as a young man. He went on to work in sales and then started and ran his own construction company for many years. Elza enjoyed singing and playing guitar. He spent many happy years enjoying "Springbriar", which he and his loving wife, Chris designed and built. He was an active lifelong member of the Elks and the Athens Boat and Ski Club. He was also a member of the American Legion, 32 degree Freemason with the Masonic Lodge #57, Moose Lodge, Eagles and many other organizations and clubs.
He is survived by his only child, Tammie Wears and her husband Berry McCain; sister, Wanda Good; brother, Gene (Sandy) Wears; sister-in-law, Marti (Jake) Geiger; loving nieces, nephews, step-children, and special friends.
Elza was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Christina C. Wears; sisters, Wilda Nauman and Betty (Toots) Miller.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 2nd, 2017 at 1PM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Paul Wymer officiating. Burial with Military Honors is to follow at Forest Rose Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5-7PM at the funeral home, as well as ONE HOUR prior to the services on Thursday.
The family suggests memorial donations in Elza's name to the Fairfield Area Humane Society (1721 Granville Pike Lancaster, OH 43130) or another charity of your choice.
