
Helen was born in Laurelville, Ohio to Earl and Leora Flaningam. She graduated from Walnut Township School, class of 1939. She was employed by and retired from RBM in Lancaster. She made her home with Roy Parcels on North Baker Ave after their marriage on June 3, 1949, where she lived until March 2016 when she went to live at the Bickford of Lancaster.
She was a faithful member of Maple St. UMC, serving 56 years as a dedicated Sunday school teacher, loving each and every child who came through her class. She was a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, participated on the Task Force for National Day of Prayer and Olivedale Swimmers. Her greatest love was supporting mission work around the world. She began making paper bead necklaces in 1980 to keep airplanes in the sky for Mission Aviation Fellowship. She made and sold over 10,000 necklaces. She was faithful to promote the cause of Christ through many activities.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Bland, her second husband Roy Parcels; two brothers, Herb and Ernie; three sisters, Fran, Ruth and Minnie.
She is survived by her nieces, Wilma Strous and Debra Flaningan; nephews, John Pugnhagen, Rick (Jean) Azbell, Jim (Shawna) Flaningan, Marvin and Dwayne Windand; life-long friends, Mary Donahue and Mary Shifflet.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday February 6, 2017 at Maple Street United Methodist Church. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial at Green Summit Cemetery in Laurelville at a later date.
