
Born in Portland, Oregon, on November 23, 1932, he spent his formative years in Arizona and Cuba. He graduated from high school on the Isle of Pines (now known as the Isle of Youth) in Cuba, where he lived and oversaw his family’s Sugar Cane Plantation and Cattle Ranch. Preceded in death by his father, Byron Edward Sheffield, mother, Hilda (Swift) Sheffield, brother, Gary Sheffield, and uncle, Rhinehardt Hollje. Married for 48 years, he is survived by his loving wife, Jill (Bolden) Sheffield, his two beloved daughters, L.M. Sheffield and Julia (Sheffield) Irvin, son-in-law, Terry Irvin, mother-in-law, Gertrude (Young) Bolden, brother-in-law, Gary Charles Bolden, sister-in-law, Sue (Van Lear) Bolden, four nieces, two nephews, and twelve grand-nieces and nephews.
A retired international businessman with Goodyear, he served and traveled in the U.S., South America, Europe and Africa. Graduate of Texas A&M in Mechanical Engineering, he was a member of the Senior U.S. Professional Golf Association (USPGA), Society of American Engineers (SAE), American Society for Quality (ASQ), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), former President and active member of The Gideon’s International, member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, and U.S. Air Force Veteran. An adventurous spirit, avid golfer, vintage and sportscar designer and driver, he was a loyal friend, father, and servant leader, who has left an indelible imprint on the hearts of many and whose legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the lives he touched.

A memorial service will begin at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, 436 North Broad Street, Lancaster, OH, with Pastor Ron Grubb officiating followed by dinner at 7:30 PM; friends may call between 5:00-6:00 PM at the funeral home.
