

Janice Emily (Boley) Appel, 86 of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, June 5th, 2023 at Mount Carmel East Hospital. Janice was born on January 18th, 1937 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Willis Sr. and Mary Ellen Boley. She was a 1954 Graduate of Berne Union High School and worked for Risch Drug Store for 28 years. Janice was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior and had been a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She always had a strong Faith and truly lived it. She was married to the love of her life, Harry Appel, for 57 years.
Janice lived in Stockton, California for a period of time as a child and had always wanted to go back. She had a love of travel and had visited 43 of the 50 states. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Janice was a huge fan of the Cleveland Guardians. She never missed watching a game and she knew every players stats and affectionately referred to them as “her boys”. She enjoyed listening to music. Her favorites included, Johnny Mathis, The DeCastro Sisters, Johnny Ray, Jerry Vale, Vikki Carr, and Eydie Gormé. She finally saw Johnny Mathis in concert for the first time last May. Janice and Harry had a lot in Lost Hollow where they loved to entertain family and friends. She will be remembered as an amazing cook. Her mother-in-law once told her, “I have 6 daughters that cannot make cabbage rolls like I can, but I do have a daughter-in-law that can!” Janice was a devoted mother. If there was a mother that should’ve had 10 children it was Janice. She loved to be in the presence of children and caring for them. She especially loved her grand dog, Scout dearly and Scout loved her back just as much. Most importantly, she will be remembered for having a caring and giving heart to others.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Allison A. Appel; siblings, Robin Boley, Michael (Nancy) Boley, Martha (Russell) Yost, and Paul Boley; sister-in-law, Patricia Boley-Ziegler; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry H. Appel; her parents, and her siblings, Willis Boley Jr., Linda Fox, Marilyn Meyer, Kay Hillyard, and Kevin Boley Sr.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her niece, Jodi Robbins for her loving care of Janice.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 10th, 2023 at 12PM at Calvary Lutheran Church (508 N. Broad St. Lancaster, OH) with Pastor Diana Gugel officiating. Burial is to follow at Knollwood Cemetery in Logan, OH. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 6PM-8PM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME. As well as ONE HOUR PRIOR to the services at the Church.
