John H. Addison, age 70, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019. He was born April 28, 1948 in Lebanon, VA to the late Howard and Nell (Kiser) Addison. John lived most of his life in Baltimore, Ohio and graduated from Liberty Union High School in 1966.
John was a two-time war veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and the Air National Guard Refueling Squadron at Rickenbacker Air Force Base during Operation Desert Storm. He retired first from Lucent Technologies and, more recently, from Ryder Logistics. John volunteered at Fairfield Medical Center and was a member of Linville Community Church.
John was the father and friend that everyone loved, wanted and deserved. He was a pillar of his community, never met a stranger, and was always there to help anyone in need.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda, and oldest grandson, Jerrid.
John leaves behind his children, Kelley Addison (Ron O’Dell), Leann (Will) Dunn, and Matthew Addison; their mother and John’s loving partner, Sally Miller; sister, Rhonda (Glynn) Thompson; brothers, Jerry (Pat) Tripp-Addison and James (Brenda) Addison; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was the true definition of a hero and will be greatly missed. With broken hearts and tear-filled eyes, we say goodbye for now. A celebration of John’s life will be planned by the family at a later date.
