

John L. Brown, 95, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. John was a retired Train Dispatcher for Chesapeake & Ohio (CSX) Railroad and a United States Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was the 1997 & 1998 Senior World Champion Horseshoe Pitcher in the National Horseshoe Pitching Association and was an avid horseshoe pitcher up to his passing. John was also proud to be the curator for the Carroll Railroad Depot at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds for 60 years.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Jon (Theresa) Brown and Eric (Becky) Brown of Lancaster; sister-in-law, Patty Shuttleworth; grandchildren, Jennifer Brown, Charles D. (Christina) Brown and Steven (Whitney) Brown; great-grandchildren, Daulten, Savannah, Hadley, Henry, Anderson, Ellie, and Beckett; niece and nephew, Sandy Brown and Steve Brown, and other loving family members and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Charles D. and Lydia E. (Mohler) Brown; sisters, Josephine Hansel and Betty Goss and brother and sister-in-law, Hal D. and Betty Brown.
Private Graveside Services will take place at the Fairview Memorial Gardens in Rockbridge, Ohio. Services are being handled through the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME.
