

Joyce Lubbert Wylie, born 14 January 1931, went to be with the Lord on 12 September 2025. Born in Baltimore, MD to the late Carl B. and Erana (Schulz) Lubbert, Joyce graduated from Valparaiso University with degrees in both English and Science. She remained an avid learner with interests in many topics including nature, bird watching, gardening, Bible study, music, mazes, puzzles and a passion for dogs. She was known for her extensive note taking and her scholastic curiosity.
Joyce married Bill Wylie of Wheeling, WV and survived.
She is survived by four children and their spouses: Mark (Thelma) Wylie of Ashford, WV, Gay (Scott) Gatian of Lancaster, OH, Apryl (Danny) Maxson of Berea, WV, and Marcie (Eddie) Noel of Hoschton, GA;
ten grandchildren: Matt (Kallista) Gatian, Becca (Cory) Apperson, Tyler Wylie, Clay Wylie, Ian Wylie, Sarah Beth Kosem, Adam (Karlin) Kosem, Ethan (Madi) Kosem, Daniel (Danae) Noel, Katie (Derek) Poole; and six great grandchildren.
Joyce had a zeal for teaching. She was a docent at Denison Homestead in Mystic, Connecticut; she taught second grade in Beverly, WV and the Title I Program in Morgantown, WV where she raised her children in Stewartstown. Always active in the community, she was a member of the Garden Club, Farm Women, Board of Elections and 4-H leadership. After moving to Lancaster, OH, in 2005, she was again a docent at the Decorative Arts Center, a Master Gardener and a Master Naturalist. Joyce was an active member of First Baptist Church in Lancaster and enjoyed hosting Bible studies. Late in her life, she was a member of the Olivedale Senior Center.
In her final year, she thoroughly enjoyed all of the people and activities at Carroll Place Assisted Living where she received excellent care.
The family is welcoming friends at 5:00 on Tuesday, 16 September, 2025 at the First Baptist Church, 1950 Pleasantville Rd, Lancaster, OH. Following at 6:00 is a Celebration of Life. A private graveside service will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Lancaster in memory of Joyce.
