Leslie Ann Johnston, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, at the age of 53. Born on October 14, 1971, Leslie was the fourth daughter of David and Regina Johnston. She was a proud graduate of Lancaster High School, where she wore her class ring every day with joy and pride.
Leslie was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her. She lived with Down Syndrome, but it never defined her—it only added to the unique and beautiful way she experienced the world. Her sass, humor, and love of teasing made her unforgettable. Though speech was a challenge, Leslie found creative ways to communicate, including learning sign language, and she always made herself understood with warmth and charm.
She was a true extrovert, known for her outgoing nature and magnetic personality. A trip to the store or a dinner out often turned into a reunion, as Leslie was greeted by friends and acquaintances who were drawn to her joyful spirit.
Leslie had a deep love for music—especially the hits of Madonna, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, and Gloria Estefan. And when the music played, Leslie danced. Her moves were legendary, and her enthusiasm infectious. She also loved books and magazines, going to the movies, and dining out—especially at Mexican restaurants and Wendy’s.
Her sense of style was unmistakable. Leslie adored jewelry and was often seen wearing a flashy necklace and several bracelets. For many years, she wore only blue, her favorite color, and she embraced it with flair.
She was a devoted sister to Beckie Sanders, Melissa Price, and Debbie Williams, and a cherished sister-in-law to Darryl Price and Tim Williams. She was a beloved aunt to Brandon Kertesz, Chad Kertesz, Katie Nunamann, Allison Tanner, Audrey Williams, Charlotte Price, and Ashley Williams. She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Regina Johnston, in 2021.
Over the years, Leslie was blessed with the care and support of many dedicated individuals—teachers, caregivers, and her team at the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities—who helped her achieve the independence she craved and deserved.
She loved visits to the park to swing, cuddling kittens and puppies, family gatherings, and parties of any kind. She also proudly participated in the Special Olympics, where she played softball and bowled with pride and determination.
Leslie’s life was a celebration of love, laughter, and resilience. She taught those around her to embrace joy, to dance without hesitation, and to love fiercely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio in Leslie’s memory.
A Celebration of Life for Leslie will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 11AM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1PM-4PM at the FUNERAL HOME.
