

Lewis Edward Robbins, lovingly known as “Ed,” went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 23, 2025, with family by his side. He was 96 years old. Ed was born on April 6, 1929, in Crandon, Wisconsin, to George and Olive Robbins. One of five children, his early years were spent in Wisconsin before the family moved to Greensburg, Indiana, where he attended high school. Ed excelled in academics and athletics, particularly basketball, and often shared cherished memories from those formative years, including the story of his father packing the family into an old bread truck to travel to their new home in Indiana. Ed met his first wife, Mary Margaret Kirk, in Indiana, and they were married on August 21st, 1949. They shared 59 wonderful years together before Margaret went home to be with the Lord in 2008.Ed pursued higher education at Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana; Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania; and Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where he studied social work.He answered his calling to ministry, serving as Associate Pastor at Conklin Avenue Baptist Church and College Student Chaplain at Harper College in Binghamton, New York. He later pastored congregations in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania and Bono, Ohio. Alongside his ministry, Ed dedicated much of his career to helping young people through his work with the Ohio Department of Youth Services as a social worker at Fairfield School for Boys, the Training Center for Youth, and the Central Office of Classification and Assignment, retiring in 1989. Retirement did not slow him down; he continued working part-time as a courier for Fairfield Federal Savings and Loan. Throughout his life Ed lived a life of service volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, and Hospice at Pickering House always offering his time, compassion, and care to those in need. While residing in Lancaster, Ohio Ed and Margaret were members of Maple Street United Methodist Church. In 2009, Ed married Estella Flowers on July 18, 2009, and they spent sixteen happy years together and upon moving to New Albany, Ohio he and Estella were active members of the New Albany Methodist Church. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, George and Olive Robbins; his first wife, Mary Margaret; his son, Gary Lynn; his grandson, Jason; and his siblings, Earl [Marie], Eulah Mary [Noble], and Arleen [Marion]. He is survived by his beloved second wife, Estella; his sons, Kirk (Madelyn) Robbins and Kent (Tonda) Robbins; his sister, Luella (Roger); stepchildren Cynthia (Ron) Farber, Kim (Shane) Crisler, and Jay (Sue) Flowers; grandchildren Amanda, Nichole (Eric) Lauterbach, Cassandra (Josh) Roberts, and Kaleb (Celina) Farber, Jessica, Chelsea, R.J. (Sarah), Zach; and great-grandchildren Madison, Kaylean, Caelyn, Ayla, Lacy, Beckett, Eisley, and Everley, Addie, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who loved him dearly. Ed will be remembered for his devotion to faith and family, his generous spirit, and the countless stories he shared that reflected a life rich with experience, wisdom, and love. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Ed’s internment will take place in the Hebron Cemetery, Adams, Indiana on September 12, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
