Born in Noble County, Ohio, Lylan grew up working on the family farm and carried those early lessons of discipline, humility, and service throughout her life. A 1955 graduate of Summerfield High School, Lylan worked as a cashier for the Lancaster City Schools but spent most of her time as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Lylan was married to her beloved husband, Dale Starr, for 65 years, a partnership marked by devotion, faith, and a shared commitment to serving others. She was a talented seamstress and baker who loved decorating her home and working in her flower garden.
Lylan’s faith was the foundation of her life. A dedicated member of the Church of Christ, she produced weekly bulletins for 30 years and taught numerous Bible classes. She lived out her beliefs with quiet consistency and a gentle spirit. Lylan exemplified Christianity even in the most difficult moments of her physical and mental decline, sharing love and laughter with others.
She is survived by her children Kevin (Kim) Starr, Karen (Keith) Ward, and Karla Young; grandchildren Kayla (Peyton) Randolph, Kameron (Mariah) Starr, Colten (Kayty) Schooley, Sydney Ward, Carson (Haley) Ward, Bryce Young, and Avery Young; great-grandchildren Annabelle Starr, Dean Starr, Lyla Starr, Van Randolph, Eleanor Randolph, Brady Schooley, Baker Schooley, and Burrow Schooley; brother Larry Garrett, and sister Treva Tilton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herzle and Leone.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 7 at Halteman Fett & Dyer Funeral Home in Lancaster, Ohio with visitation from 9:00-11:00am. Lylan’s son, Kevin Starr, will be officiating. Burial will take place at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with a private family event.
