Marlene Kay Oliver passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 in Springfield, Ohio. She was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on January 28, 1953. Marlene and her mother moved from Salem, Ohio in 1968 to Lancaster where she graduated from Lancaster High School in 1971. She earned an associates degree from Rio Grande College in 1973 and was a lab tech at Lancaster-Fairfield Hospital for about 15 years. She returned to college to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ohio University and worked for Blind and Notestone Accounting until poor health caused her to retire early. Marlene was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior where she sang in the choir and participated in the knitting group. She volunteered at the Fairfield Medical Center. Marlene raised long hair dachshunds for about 20 years. She was an avid crafter and enjoyed beading, crochet, painting, sewing and any other craft she could make by hand. She even shared her knowledge of beading by leading a class at church. She was very interested in genealogy and spent many hours researching the Cusick, Tope and Oliver family trees. Marlene and her husband, Michael, played dulcimers and penny whistles, delighting many at churches, festivals and fairs. She and Michael were founding members of the Standing Stone Strings and Things dulcimer club. Marlene loved children and at Christmas she and Michael would play Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus for parties and for Christmas pictures with animals at the pet hospital. Marlene joins those who went ahead to heaven, including her husband Michael, mother, Mary Cusick, father, Lloyd Cusick, sister Edith May Cusick, father and mother in law, Jim and Peg Oliver. Marlene is survived by sister, Phyllis Tullis, brother, Doug Cusick, nieces, Nancy and Joy Tullis, cousins Jana Higgins, JoAnn McLaughlin, adopted Andres family Niece and nephews and special friends and care givers Judy Root, Diana Gugel, John Curts and Jill Lindsey. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 3 at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 1920 West Fair Ave., Lancaster with the Reverend Diana Gugel officiating. Friends may call at Halteman-Fett and Dyer Funeral Home 4-7 Friday, December 2, 2022. Burial will be at the Forest Rose Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to the Fairfield County Humane Society or to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior.
