LANCASTER: Robert “Bob” Kent Haning, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, August 17, 2018. Bob’s strong faith, and devotion to family and friends provided him with the ability to enjoy his incredible 89 years with all of us.
Bob Haning was born December 14, 1928 to Charles Haning (deceased) and Myrtle (Saxton) Haning (deceased). Growing up in Lancaster as a proud and well-respected member of the community, Bob graduated from Lancaster High School in 1946. He then went on to graduate from The Ohio State University in 1951 with a degree in mechanical engineering and as a distinguished member of the Ohio State Marching Band.
Bob began his engineering career with Rockwell International and retired from the company after 35 years of dedicated work where he was instrumental in developing many systems still foundationally used by the aeronautics industry today.
Bob enjoyed living his faith and had a deep devotion for his church and community. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bob served as a Deacon, Elder, choir member and on numerous committees. He also enjoyed sharing his time as a volunteer to read to children at local libraries and was also a Big Brother with the BB/BS program.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Haning and nephew Tom Haning. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Sandi (Aken) Haning, of Lancaster, 4 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews and 4 great-great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, August 25 at 4:00PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Westerville, located at 41 W. College Avenue, Westerville, Ohio, officiated by Rev. Mark Gauen. A graveside internment will be held by family members at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.haltemanfettdyer.com.
