Rosezella Shaw

Born on October 5, 1922, to the late Ralph and Mary Hitchings, Rosezella grew up in Nelsonville, Ohio, where she graduated from Nelsonville High School. During her school years, she played basketball and volleyball and participated in home economics classes — early signs of the skills and passions she carried throughout her life.

Rosezella married Frank Shaw, with whom she shared many devoted years of partnership and family life. Together, they built a home centered around tradition, good food, and the comfort of gathering loved ones close.

She enjoyed making quilts, creating holiday traditions, baking many desserts for each holiday, and cooking meals that brought her family together. Her kitchen was the heart of her home — a place where memories were made, stories were shared, and generations were fed with love.

Rosezella was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and would call every Saturday asking what channel the game was on. Not being a dog lover until later in life, she found she loved her grand pups and would get a kick out of seeing and feeding them. Frank and Rosezella both enjoyed spending summers at their summer home on the Muskingum River, which she described as the most enjoyable times of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Fox, and Barbara’s daughters: Cara Deeds (Jason) and Elizabeth Fox. She is also survived by the children of her late daughter, Mary Ann Roberts (Darrell): Angela Kempton (Jeff) and Amy Roberts. Her great grandchildren include Jordan Kempton (Tayler) and Jack Kempton, and her great great granddaughter, Addison Kempton, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Mary Hitchings; her husband, Frank Shaw; her daughter, Mary Ann Roberts; her great granddaughter, Addison Kempton; and her siblings: Rachel Bartow (John), Evelyn Bailey (John), Eugene Hitchings (Gerry), and Joseph Hitchings.

A graveside service honoring Rosezella’s long and beautiful life will be held at Carbon Hill Cemetery in Carbon Hill, Ohio, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Frank.

Rosezella’s 103 years were a testament to resilience, devotion, and the enduring strength of a mother and grandmother who poured love into her family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
