

Ruth A. (Barnes) Bibler, 97, of Lancaster passed away Sunday evening, August 3, 2025. She was born August 19, 1927, in Lancaster to City Auditor John W. and Rosannah Barnes. Ruth graduated from Lancaster High School in 1945. Upon graduation, she worked briefly at Lancaster National Bank and then as a secretary for Anchor Hocking before beginning a forty-five year secretarial career with Lancaster City Schools, retiring at age 80. On November 25, 1951, Ruth married Robert (Bob) Bibler who preceded her in death. Ruth was a talented pianist, serving as accompanist for the Lancaster Men's Glee Club and for both the Anchor Hocking Men's Chorus and Women's Chorus. As a vocalist, she sang with many musical groups. Ruth was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church and a member of Eastern Star for seventy-five years. She had many interests, including antiques, film, gardening, and especially politics. She was also an avid reader. Ruth cherished every moment that she spent with her family. It was her greatest joy. Ruth is survived by daughter, Leigh Ann (Rick) Bagby of Lancaster; grandson Aaron (Katie Couch) Bagby and great-granddaughters Bridget, Hazel, and Penelope of Westminster, Colorado; grandson Adam Bibler and great-granddaughters Audrey and Antje of Alexandria, Virginia; and grandson Dr. Michael (Dr. Katherine Oppenlander) Bibler and great-granddaughters Madalyn and Elsie of Georgetown, Texas; daughter-in-law Julie Bibler of Lancaster, sister-in-law Margot Barnes of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her son Mark Bibler and brothers and sisters-in-law Jack (Betty Jane) Barnes, Leroy (Betty Lou) Barnes, Robert (Sally) Barnes, Paul (Yvonne) Barnes, and Kenneth Barnes. We wish to acknowledge the kindness and compassion of the staff at Primrose Retirement Community, where Ruth had resided for seven years. Memorial gifts in Ruth's name may be given to First United Methodist Church and Lancaster Parks and Recreation. Calling hours will be from 11 AM to 1 PM, Friday, August 8, 2025 at Halteman Fett & Dyer Funeral Home with the service to follow. Entombment will take place in the mausoleum at Forest Rose Cemetery immediately after the service.
