Steven R. Garstad, 71, departed this life after a short battle with cancer on September 9, 2021, at his home in Lancaster Ohio. He was the son of George G. and Rita (Buhrendorf) of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Deborah Anne.
Steve was a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and The Wharton Business School (MBA). He served a total of thirteen Presbyterian churches in a variety of positions, acting for many as a transitional minister aiding congregations following the resignation of a pastor and preparing for the arrival of a new pastor. He was very gifted in this ministry.
He came to Lancaster to serve at the First Presbyterian Church there and was currently at the Unity Presbyterian Church in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
He was very involved with Youth Ministries, church camps, and conferences. He loved God and he loved people of all ages. He enjoyed many interests including genealogy, reading, art, history, science, and auto mechanics. He was also an avid outdoorsman enjoying whitewater and flatwater kayaking and canoeing. He especially enjoyed and valued his yearly fly fishing trips to the Catskills with a group of lifelong true friends. He also held membership in the Adirondack Forty-Sixers, a select group of hikers who had successfully climbed all forty-six of the Adirondack High Peaks.
Steve will be missed by a large circle of friends gained and cultivated over his long and interesting life.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00noon on Saturday, November 13, 2021, Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 N. 23rd St., Camp Hill, PA 17011 with a reception following at the church. Public Interment will be prior to the service, at 10:30am, at the Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Rd. Camp Hill, PA 17011.
