Tom Mertz

Thomas “Tom” Mertz, 90 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away at home on July 15, 2021. He was born on September 26, 1930 to Ralph and Rose (Strait) Mertz. Tom graduated from Pleasantville High School and was stationed with the U.S. Army in Europe. After serving his country, Tom returned home to the Mertz family farm. On November 6, 1955, Tom married Evelyn Ety. In addition to helping his father with the family farm, Tom owned Tom Mertz Realty and Tom Mertz Insurance. Tom and Evelyn enjoyed playing golf with friends. Tom also enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially Ohio State games. Tom is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn; Sister, Charlotte Cronin; Brother-in-law, Roger Ety; Nieces and Nephews: Doug (Robin) Cronin, Dr. Lori Cronin (Craig Reliford), Greg (Regina) Bresler, Kevin (Lisa) Ety, Amy Ety; great nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Rose Mertz; Evelyn’s parents, Raymond and Marie Ety; Brother-in-law, Loren Cronin; Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law, Mary and Ronnie Bresler; Nephew, Scott Ety. Tom’s family will be eternally grateful for the loving caregivers who took care of Tom. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2021 from 1-4 pm at the Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home. Private graveside service will be held on Monday, July 19 at Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
