Wilbert E. Pyles, 99, passed away peacefully at the Pickering House on April 24th, 2018, (just 6 weeks shy of his 100th birthday). Wilbert was born June 12, 1918. He retired from R.T. Pugh Trucking, after many years of driving trucks. He continued to pass the time working for multiple contractors and finally retired again from Taylor Chevrolet, doing dealer trades to anywhere and everywhere.
He is survived by daughters, Beverly Cody, and Nancy (John) Kruse, and son, Richard (Maureen) Hoover. Grandchildren, Wendy (Scott) Ault, Sherry (Bill) McGinn, Andy (Linda) Kruse, Katie Kruse, Jennifer Kruse, Doug Hoover, Vickie Hoover, and Tammy Barnes. He is also survived by several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nephew, Jerry (Donna) Cook, and his loved dog, Beau.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Blanche Pyles, his first wife Mary Ellen, his second wife, Bonita, daughters, Judy Fosnaugh, and Deborah Hoover, son, Earl (Butch) Pyles, and son in law, Bill Cody Sr. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Edna Petty and Mable Downhour.
Wilbert was a World War II Veteran, serving in the US Navy on board Landing Ship Medium (LSM), 282, (an amphibious assault ship) as a gunner’s mate 3rd class, in the South Pacific. He received numerous metals for his services. He was a proud member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Way (VFW) and had a lifetime membership in both.

A Celebration of Wilbert’s life will be held on Saturday April 28th, 2018 at 1PM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 11AM until the time of the services.
