Born February 19, 1930 in Buchtel, Ohio to the late William Henry Banfield and Venice Naomi Boch. At the age of 7 he moved with his family to Illinois where he lived and graduated from Taylorville High School. He immediately entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. After his tour of duty he moved back to Ohio and retired from State Farm Insurance where he was an agent for 28 years. He loved fishing, golfing, family outings and wintering in Florida. Bill was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lancaster and a long standing attendee of Maranatha Baptist Church in Florida.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, of 37 years, Wanda M. Wagoner Banfield; two daughters, Becky (Dick) Clark of Lancaster and Cathy (Bill) Fanning of Mt Airy, N.C.; two step daughters, Deborah (David) Vaughn of Logan and Rebecca (Homer) Hartley of Lancaster; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Young of Sun City, A.Z. and Jean Rasmussen of Chapel Hill, N.C.; several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Services will be held at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home on Monday August 22 at 11AM with Mattew Nihiser officiating with entombment to follow in Fairview Mausoleum Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 as well as one hour prior to the service.
Memorial may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice in lieu of flowers.
