It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, Berend (Ben) Wevers on July 17, 2021. Ben was born in Marienberg, Overijssel, Netherlands on June 30, 1941, to his parents Jan and Willemina Wevers.
He will be greatly missed by his children; Tamara, Benny (Heidi), Jeff (Michelle), and grandchildren; Matthew (Katie), Brendon, and Rowen. Though separated from his wife Sylvia they remained lifelong friends.
He was the eighth child of fourteen in the enormous Wevers family that immigrated from the Netherlands in 1951. Ben was predeceased by his beloved parents, and some brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Ben had a kind heart, great sense of humour, and was an icon in the Cloverdale community. He served with the Cloverdale Chamber of Commerce and the Cloverdale Rodeo. He was a great ambassador for Surrey, working with the Surrey Board of Trade and Tourism.
In his younger days Ben enjoyed sports, especially playing soccer. This enjoyment followed him for his whole life, though he watched more than he played in his adult years, cheering on the Canucks, Whitecaps, and Stampeders.
He enjoyed an eclectic variety of music, movies, and entertainment. He supported these industries in British Columbia throughout his entire career - he even got a shout out from Aerosmith on the CD jacket of their 'Pump' album.
His parents bestowed upon him a strong faith in the Lord, and even when attending church became difficult, he read daily from the Bible. This faith amplified the kindness and devotion he felt for his family and friends; one of the most special acts he felt he was able to do was be a bone marrow donor to his dearly departed sister.
