Passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
David was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Dorothy (Waller) Boynton. He was the second oldest son of Lloyd and Dorothy Boynton and a loving brother to Timothy and his wife Brenda, Roberta (James), and Lynne (William).
David was a proud father of Jordan, Ethan (Ella), and Aimee (Michael), and shortly before his passing became a very proud grandfather to Ozzy. He was also a proud uncle to Meaghan, Meredith, Maureen (Chris), Richard, Corey, Trevor, and many great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom he cared for deeply.
From an early age, David possessed a spirit of adventure that would shape much of his life. While still in high school, he joined the Canadian Naval Reserves. Only days after graduation, at just 17 years of age, he travelled to the west coast of Canada for the first time and served aboard HMCS Cowichan, a wooden minesweeper.
He later served aboard HMCS Provider, sailing across the Atlantic Ocean with ports of call that included Lisbon, Portugal; Plymouth, England; and Amsterdam, Holland. Those experiences reflected a lifelong willingness to embrace new challenges and see more of the world.
Over the years, David worked in many different fields across Canada. His experiences took him from Ontario to Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia, where he worked in transportation, construction, communications infrastructure, mining, heavy equipment operations, and aviation-related industries. He later pursued specialized training in aviation maintenance engineering, including helicopters and turbine engines, eventually working within the helicopter industry in British Columbia.
Before becoming a Regular Member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, David first served for several years as an Auxiliary Constable with the RCMP in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
In November 1989, David was sworn in as a member of the RCMP. Following French language training in Montreal and recruit training at RCMP Depot in Regina, he began a policing career that would take him through a number of detachments and specialized sections, including North Vancouver Detachment, Richmond Airport Detachment, Deas Island Highway Patrol, VICLAS, Provincial Traffic Section, and finally “E” Division VIP/Consulate Section.
Of all his postings, David especially loved his time with the VIP/Consulate Section and often joked that he could not believe it was actually a job because he enjoyed every minute of it.
David later attempted retirement, but like many things in life, he approached it with energy and determination — and ultimately failed at it completely. After leaving the RCMP, he continued working for several years in K-9 Port Security in Seattle, Washington.
David loved to travel. He shared many adventures over the years with his fiancée, Brenda, including frequent trips to the Philippines, a place that became very special to both of them. He also treasured travelling with his children and spending time with family whenever possible.
David will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, strong work ethic, great sense of humour, deep love for family, and unwavering faith. He held a strong belief in God throughout his life and is now at peace with his Lord and Saviour.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the nursing team and all the volunteers at The Doug and Fran MacDonald Langley Hospice Residence for the care, compassion, and support they provided to David during his final weeks.
A Memorial Service for David will be held on June 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Cloverdale Baptist Church, 18685 64 Avenue, Surrey, British Columbia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in David’s memory to Citadel Canine Society.
