Deena was born on March 4, 1956 in Prince George BC to the late Mary (Johnson) and Doug Courtice Sr. The third born of five siblings lived in a small duplex on Cedar street by Fort George Park in Prince George. She and her siblings who all have names that start with “D” ; Debbie David, Deena, Dawn and Doug Jr. grew up together a loving and close family, still to this day.
Excelled at academics, was athletic and played sports throughout high school.
After Graduation worked at the Keg and was destined to become a “Keg Manager” but she had different plans for her life. She moved to Vancouver to live with some friends and experience life on her own then returned to Prince George not expecting to find love but found it and married Peter Link in 1978 . They had 3 Children Amanda, Brendan and Christy. She was the typical Hockey Mom, Soccer Mom , Ringette Mom, and “taxi”. She did everything that was needed for her kids and enjoyed being a big part of their sports games and tournaments.
She enjoyed hosting dinners and get togethers, and being a good hostess. Deena was a fabulous cook and loved to try new things although some recipes were not as successful as others we all enjoyed trying them anyways because she cooked it.
Peter and Deena although divorced in 1996 have remained friends and dedicated parents to their 3 children and loving Grandparents to their 2 grand children Kingsley and Kendall.
Deena didn’t believe in jumping from one job to the next so other than her lifelong career of being a mother her work career was between 2 companies having worked for the TD Bank (TD Canada Trust) or 16/17yrs then Home Depot for 20+ years.
Deena loved spending time with her Friends and Family. She loved her cats Bella and newly acquired cat Ms Kitty and her grand cat Zeus, Dolly and Charlie and grand dog Tia. Deena had close special bonds with all her nieces and nephews regardless of the time she got to spend with them. She held each and everyone close to her heart. Her biggest love in life was her family, her extended family and adopted families. To Deena family was everything!
Some of her favorite pastimes was watching her Crime and mystery shows, cross words, puzzles, coloring , making jewelry, camping, listening to music, and reading novels.
She never missed an opportunity to help someone even when she couldn’t afford it or was not feeling well or feeling up to it. Her needs came secondary to everyone else's and each one of us has been helped, comforted and supported by Deena in one way or another.
Some of her happiest times was when she got to escape to Black Mountain Ranch and as she said the moment she crossed that border the stress of everything disappeared and she could really relax. She was very happy that she could introduce this place to her grandkids who had so much fun playing games, riding the horses and having fun with Grandma who now have some great memories of their grandma that they’ll never forget.
With warmth and love on Dec 9, 2017 Jesus welcomed his angel Deena into his arms.
Deena will forever be missed by all her family and friends. Although we lost a mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin and friend we will always have our memories of her to fill that void in our hearts. Be at peace Deena we love you.
