Eva was born in France, where her story began with a spirit that would carry her across continents and through a life full of character. She later made her way to Winnipeg, and eventually settled in Penticton, where she built a life, raised her family, and became a familiar force to all who knew her. Along the way, she met her husband and created the foundation of the family she loved so fiercely.
Eva was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Joseph, his fiancée Jennifer, and her cherished granddaughters, Jordana and Joleigh, and her daughter Ayla. Of all the roles she held in life, being a grandmother was the one she took most seriously and enjoyed the most. She adored being Nagymama and fully embraced her role as “Neemamma,” a title she wore with pride, love, and just the right amount of authority.
Eva had a sense of humour that will never be matched… quick, sharp, and often perfectly timed. She was as stubborn as they come (there was never really any debate about that), but it was part of what made her so unforgettable. She loved deeply, stood her ground always, and made sure everyone around her knew exactly where they stood… with love, of course. She loved to “putz around the house,” always keeping busy, tending to the little things, and making a home feel like her home. And in true Eva fashion, when things went her way, she’d often say, “It sucks to be Eva Ritlop”….a line that somehow always managed to get a laugh.
She also had a special love for her two cats, who brought her comfort, companionship, and no doubt, listened to a few of her strong opinions over the years. They will continue to be cared for by her daughter, Ayla.
A small service was held with family and close friends to honour and celebrate her life… just the way she would have wanted: surrounded by those who knew her best.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff in the ICU at Langley Memorial Hospital for their care, compassion, and support during her final days.
Eva leaves behind a legacy of strength, laughter, and love. She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and, without question, impossible to forget.
