Frank was born in Big Valley, Alberta on November 23, 1928. His parents moved the family to Slocan, BC in 1934 where he pursued schooling and work.
He worked for his dad, fought forest fires in the valley and drove freight truck. An initiating test for a mechanics job was to rebuild a motor with pieces of parts in a bucket. He was successful and pursued a career as a heavy-duty mechanic.
Frank and Hazeldeane were married on May 18,1951 and started their family. In 1955 the family moved from New Denver, BC to Lillooet, BC where Frank worked for the Department of Highways.
The family of 5 became a family of 7, living in town a short time, then moved to the farm 12 miles away. A big garden was planted every year, Frank would hunt wild game in the fall. Cows, chickens, rabbits and horses became part of the family too.
With his mechanical knowledge Frank designed, fabricated, or modified motors or implements on different vehicles to help with work on the farm. Any heavy duty task had a tool designed to help. This ability was engaged until the end of his life.
In 1967, Frank and Hazeldeane now had a family of 8, and they moved to Golden, BC where he continued to work for the Department of Highways. He also volunteered with Ducks Unlimited, Minor Hockey teams, and non-profit organizations. Family and friends also received a helping hand.
Frank played the accordion from a young age and also started on piano keyboards. He enjoyed board games and card games with friends and family. A video camera recorded a lot of travelling in the RV. A computer later on introduced him to Google.
Throughout his retirement Frank was challenged by macular degeneration. Family and friends supported him with trips to appointments throughout the province when he could no longer drive himself. With Hazeldeane's support he was able to live independently during those years.
Frank was a private person in many ways. Though in the last few years he had expressed caring for family and friends, wishing everyone well and good health.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life in Golden, BC at the Golden Seniors Center on July 22, 2017, 1-4 pm in the afternoon. Internment for Frank will take place in Slocan, BC.
