He was born on April 26, 1926 to Adolf and Emilie Gunther, in Pushkeiten, Poland. His father and older brother, Alexander, died in the 2nd World War, and he is survived by a younger sister, Hedwich, and younger brother, Waldermar (Erika).
Like so many other young men, Fred was conscripted into the Army and ended up being a POW in France. After surviving the horrors of war, he met and married his beloved Erika. They left all their relatives behind and set out to Canada in 1957. With a couple of suitcases and their first child Monica, they finally landed at Vancouver Railway Station. Their second child Karl was born in Burnaby in 1959, and shortly after that they moved to 5 acres in Surrey. Fred and Erika were good partners, worked very hard, and successfully managed their life to a good retirement.
Fred is survived by his wife Erika, with whom he cherished their adventure of life. Also survived by his daughter Monica (Rick), and son Karl (Michele), and five grandchildren Curtis, Brandon (Amanda), Jonathan (Alexis), Shaina (Adam), and Nicole.
Opa has one great grandchild, Theo, who always brought a smile to his face.
