Gary Ernest Trowell (Pops as most people knew him) passed away peacefully the morning of October 13, 2016 at the age of 71 from cancer. He will be sadly missed by his children: Shayne (Bernice), Kevin (Shawna) and daughter Stacey. Grandchildren: Keegan, Sheridan, Tamzen, Kurtis, Denon and Tenaya. Brothers and sisters: Robert (Elsie – pre deceased), Donna (Howard), Brian (Lesley – pre deceased), Sandy (Tom), Gerry (Gaye), Judy (Willie), Lynn (Larry), Leanna (Rob), Terry and many nephews, nieces and friends. His wife Kerry and sister Pat both pre deceased him.
He grew up in a small town in Ontario, the fourth oldest of 11 children to Ernest and Bertha Trowell. He moved to BC in approximately 1965 where he later met his wife Kerry. They were married on March 1967 and continued to be until she passed away January 16, 1998. Gary spent his life on roof tops working as a labourer right up to an inspector. In 1977 he suffered sever burns to a third of his body when hot tar fell on him. Even then he took time out of his recovery to comfort a small girl on the burn ward.
Retiring just over a year ago he spent his last year discovering the world of Facebook and spending time with family. His smile and easy going personality touched so many people. He was proud of all his grandchildren even though he could not spell their names.
Who would have thought less then a weeks notice for you to be leaving us so soon? The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and other staff members at the Langley Memorial Hospital. Even though his stay was short they touched him in a positive way.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Burn Fund at Vancouver General Hospital - http://burnfund.org.
Arrangements under the direction of Henderson's Langley Funeral Home, Langley, BC.
