Gerry’s sense of humour is the first thing we loved about him. He could take a situation, and make it more tolerable by adding a funny take to it. He used his humour to make people relax, make them feel comfortable. He was down to earth, he would always see the glass on the full side as opposed to empty.
He always saw things on the lighter side. His kind heart always shone through.
He had a range of jobs in his lifetime. Working for Imperial Oil in northern Alberta, to starting and running a jewelry business in Gastown, selling boats, and finally becoming a Realtor being his true passion. Along the way meeting people who quickly became friends, because it was so easy to be Gerry’s friend. He was sincere, honest, and comfortable in his own skin. Confident in most things he did. Party time was party time, and as a host he made sure you always had a drink.
Gerry’s loves were his family firstly, watching his kids grow and learn, and then the contentment that came from having his Grandsons. Next was his home which he took such pride in. He enjoyed any household handy man repair, to painting, pruning the shrubs, cleaning the pool, fixing the lawn tractor or working on the vehicles. He always did the best job he could, and wasn’t afraid of work. He took pride in his accomplishments, and especially in his children.
He loved travelling, especially with good friends, it didn’t matter where he went it was and always enjoyable. Lots of laughter…. He loved the blues, light jazz, Eric Clapton, & it usually had to be at high volume. Family dinners, barbeques, and making breakfast for everyone was a joy to him.
He was active in the community with the Langley Lions Club for a few years, Co-ordinator of the Langley Atom League Football team while our Son played on the team. Football was his favourite sport. He quickly adapted to his favourite team being the BC Lions after moving to BC. Lion’s games always meant sharing coaching tips with his brother-in-law Greg, with a shot of Wiser’s in hand. Of course, going to live games, usually involved a tail-gate party. I think Gerry came close to being one of the best at that.
He had a special place in his heart for animals, and especially our family pets. He loved fishing, boating, swimming, crabbing, bike riding through the woods, trailering, and he enjoyed the social side of golf, never happy with his ability. His most favourite thing, was floating in the pool, as we would say, “Gerry you’re hogging the sun again!”
He was a compassionate wonderful man. Our family will miss him dearly. His lessons were taught, not from a book, not in a commanding way, but from his heart to yours…
Gerry we love you, and will miss you, but will always keep you close; in our hearts. Until we see you again. You left us so many memories, so many good times, and we thank you! Love your family.xoxo
We will not be having an open mike at Gerry’s Memorial Service. If you would like to say something please contact the family, and we would love to schedule it into the program.
Instead of a “guest book”, we will be requesting that you jot down a special memory of him. These memories will bring more comfort to the family in the days ahead.
We would like you to have some notice of this, so if you would like to prepare your memory at home prior to attending, then just bring it with you, & we will have pen and paper available to jot it down.
Something he did or said, a story about him, or whatever memory you remember most vividly about him. Anonymous is an option.
Thank you from the family.
