Ian - sitting here thinking about Saturday, July 20, 2013 and how the day played out before you left us that night.  Kath and I spending the late afternoon and evening with you and then the boys arrived. Now you have Kath again and I hope you are taking really good care of her.

Hard to believe that we have known you for over 33 years. There were many laughs, a few tears and of course many, yes many beers.

When I think of Ian, I have to smile. I can see him smiling back with that cheeky look. Always the same.
I met him about 1976 when I was married to Rob Hooper. He and Kath had Kelvin and Ryan, and we had a daughter Melissa. Ian and Kath were a big part of our friendship group, mainly Brits. We spent many happy times with them. They were a happy family.
We went camping up in the mountains with some other friends and had a great time.
Kath and I were pregnant together. I was due in the January and they both had Melissa to stay while I was in hospital, despite the fact Kath was 8 months pregnant. They were amazing friends and Melissa loved going over to play with Kelvin, Ryan, Tathy and funny Ian as she called him. Ian was like one of the children, happy to play with them and of course tease them as only Ian could. Melissa was very fond of him and so was I.
I last saw him in1999. Still the same loveable chap, and it was like I had seen him the day before.
I'm sorry I didn't get to see him again. He was a star and I will always remember him with joy and that cheeky smile on his face, eyes wide open.
Goodbye my friend. So glad I met you. You will be truly missed.

Have had a lot of real good belly laughs over the years with Ian,my last conversation with him was from his hospice bed and was joking up to the end
Ian was a very generous person even if he was a Scot.we worked together on quite a few occasions always enjoyed the experience.He and Kath raised 3 great boys who will miss him .as will all who knew him. Good bye my friend

With fondest memories of Ian. Having spent many happy and fun times with Ian, Kath and family in the 70's. My thoughts are with you all.

I first met Ian in around 1967 when he started going out with Kathy.  He was the first guy I knew who owned a car so was always giving Kathy's friends lifts.  It was sad when Kathy & Ian went off to Canada to start a new life although I have now visited 3 times.  I remember Ian as being a fun loving guy who will be sadly missed by those close to him.  My thoughts are with you all.

We didn't know Ian as well as we would have liked, but on the few occasions that we did meet him, going back to his engagement and marriage to Kathy, we found him to be a fun-loving likeable person. We would like to express our deepest sympathy to all those close to him, who must be missing him terribly. Our thoughts are with you all.

We are so so sorry, and thinking of you all. I can't even imagine how hard it has been for you.
Everything I can think of to say has been said many times and is a cliche, so I won't bother.
Personally, I am trying to take comfort from the countless memories that I am left with and hope that you are able to do the same. All those vacations, camping trips, Christmases, etc. All the fruitless, calamity filled hunting trips he went on, the smell of Old Port cigars as a kid, and the weird and wonderful vehicles he seemed to find, such as folding boats and who will ever forget the Pimpmobile?! Anyone who can pull up in that with a straight face is a hell of a man in my book!!
All those wonderful memories will always be there, and I laugh even as I cry.
It was great to connect with him as an adult last time I was there. We had some very deep conversations and I know that, even though he carried heavy regrets, he was a man who loved you all so much and was very, very proud of his family.
As you know, I had hoped to get over and see him but it just wasn't possible, so many problems here to deal with. For those same reasons, I won't be able to come to the funeral but will be thinking of you all and know you will help each other through it. We bought a rose bush to plant in his memory today. It is different from the norm, slightly quirky, so seemed to fit.
I will never forget him.
