Alice Margaret-Jean Schiller was born April 18, 1945 in Swan River, Manitoba. At a young age the family moved to Rama, Saskatchewan on property adjacent to her mother's aging mother and uncle, where they developed a dairy farm. At age 5 she went to Mainroad School for 2 years. When Jean turned 7 years old, the family moved to Fort Langley, BC where she completed her elementary education then on to Langley Secondary High School.
After finishing school Jean worked with her Mother and siblings running the Fort Grill Restaurant where she met and married Bill Bergeron. Rory and Vince soon joined the family. When the boys were of school age, Jean worked at the Fort Hotel, Fort Grocery Store, Fields-Fedco, income tax company. Desiring a career she began working for BCM Manufacturing first as a receptionist then into accounting where she found her niche taking night school courses for several years. As her experience grew she began to look for more challenges, applying at Overwaite Food Group Accounting Dept. where she enjoyed working for 23 years. Not wanting to retire she still worked 3 days a week when she became ill.
Lois's memories
Growing up on a prairie farm Jean, Ken and I were playmates and best friends, that continued through our teen years and adulthood. As we married, our lives taking different avenues, when we were together the bond was always there and always will be.
Jean was a magnet for animals, one of my favourite memories, she had built a double decker ride with a wagon, a small table on it that kitty was to ride on top of, not fussy on the view from the top kitty was back down before Jean could turn around she patiently kept putting him back chastising him all the while. I echo all my family has said, a part of our lives is missing, but take comfort in knowing her spirit will always be with us.
Ken's favourite memory of Jean was when she was very little we bathed in a wash tub with hot water from the stove, when our Dad got out of the tub looking at his hairy legs she said "look daddy your feathers are all wet."
Bert's favourite memories are when Jean and family spent summer holidays in Saskatchewan with them driving around the country looking for old cars for Bill to restore. He and his family are deeply saddened by the loss of our special sibling.
