Lucy Jean (Wardle) Olson was born in Naperville, Illinois on May 26, 1952, to Fred and Jean Wardle. Lucy grew up on Donwood Drive spending time on her large property with her parents and her five siblings: Cliff, Carol, David, Becky and Russ. Lucy enjoyed horses and cared for many animals on the property, most notably little Albert, her precious little lamb.
In the summer of 1970, Lucy Wardle headed north to attend Trinity Western Junior College in Langley where she met the love of her life, Arne Olson. Arne and Lucy fell in love and were engaged in the Spring of 1972. They were married on June 16, 1973, in Naperville, Illinois, surrounded by friends and family.
Lucy packed up her Pinto and moved to BC, Canada where, during that simple time, she arrived at the border, filled out a form and was immediately accepted as a Permanent Resident. She was a stay-at home-Mom with a part-time bookkeeping business, all while raising her family. She created a safe, loving, and fun home life. Lucy and Arne raised their boys in South Surrey and Langley, BC.
Lucy was devoted to her three sons, three daughters-in-law, and eight grandchildren: Josh (Katherine), Jesse (Alida), Joel (Amy), Maia, Felix, Eva, Grace, Mariah, Josiah, Anya and Isaac.
With Arne as an Air Canada pilot the Olson family was able to travel extensively, spent many summers camping as a family, and were always up for adventure. Lucy enjoyed the adventure of flying in planes and on the back of motorcycles with her husband Arne. Their travels took them most notably to Hawaii, Italy, Spain, Ethiopia, Israel, Indonesia, and many more locations. It’s worth noting that when Arne returned home from a working trip, Lucy was always ready to greet him as the stunning beauty she was no matter the stresses and toils of life at the time.
Lucy had a strong Christian faith from a young age and was involved with various churches in the Fraser Valley most notably: Johnson Heights Church, Langley Vineyard and Christian Life Assembly in Langley. Lucy was a servant for her Lord and committed her life to serving Him.
Lucy will be remembered for the meaning of her name as a “Bringer of Light” as she was someone who was always bringing others encouragement, love, peace, joy and a warmth like no other. She had dear friends with whom she was always selfless, hosting events in her home and around the Langley airport. She will be remembered for her big smile and her ability to always making others feel comfortable. Lucy always showed up for others, attended her kids’ and grandkids’ various sports and activities by consistently cheering them on. Lucy’s love for her husband, her children and grandchildren was unparalleled and unending.
On her final journey Lucy flew into the arms of her Lord Jesus on July 27, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Lucy’s Celebration of Life will be held on August 9, 2024, at Christian Life Assembly in Langley at 2:00pm. Donations to the Terry Fox Foundation are welcomed at terryfox.org
