June 25, 1924 – November 9, 2019
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Phyllis Helen Bishop at the age of 95. Phyllis was born in New Westminster, BC, to Ernest and Nora Bailey and was raised in a farm home in Cloverdale, BC with her siblings Gerry, George and Beryl. She stayed in the Langley area and married Stan (“Bish”) Bishop in 1948. After working at local banks and B & B Contracting, she joined the family business, Reliable Cycle & Sports, which operated in Langley until ownership was taken over by her son, Randy, who still serves the Fraser Valley under the new business name: Mad Dogs Ski and Board.
In recognition of her long history in Langley, Phyllis was honoured as a Langley Pioneer at the 2016 Douglas Day event. She was known by all for her passion for gardening and lived independently in her own home until her passing.
Phyllis is predeceased by her husband and siblings and will be sadly missed by her loving children, Karen (Danny) and Randy (Catherine); her grandchildren Mike (Pam), Michelle, Mark (Daina), Leah (Chris), John, Kevin (deceased), Matthew (Bailey) and numerous great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Langley Hospice, who provided invaluable care in the short time that Phyllis was there.
A celebration honouring Phyllis’s long life will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at 2:00pmat St. Andrews Anglican Church, 20955 Old Yale Road, Langley, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Langley Hospice Society in Phyllis's name at www.langleyhospice.com
