Randy Lackman, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on May 31, 2024, at the age of 76. He was born in Calgary on November 3, 1947. Randy grew up in Orangeville, Ontario. He treasured his time there and formed lifelong friendships. He obtained a degree in Civil Engineering at Lakehead University, where he also met his future wife. Randy was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Joan Lackman (née Kilbank), with whom he shared 53 beautiful years of marriage. They settled in the Lower Mainland of BC and together, they raised a loving family, travelled extensively and created cherished memories.
Randy's great passions were dogs and cycling. He had a remarkable ability to instantly captivate the hearts of any furry friend he encountered. His love for dogs extended to his daughters' pets, who affectionately called them his "Grand-puppies." With his friends in the Valley Outdoor Association, Randy often embarked on exhilarating cycling excursions. He took pleasure in planning and leading cycling routes around the Lower Mainland. He and Joan explored many countries by bicycle including Canada, the United States, Britain, Spain and many other countries in Europe as well.
Randy's magnetic (and comic) personality drew him to people from all walks of life. He had an uncanny ability to form connections wherever he went, even encountering a fellow cyclist on the Kettle Valley Railway while heading in opposite directions. Randy's generosity knew no bounds. Even after he could no longer cycle, he selflessly distributed his gear, accessories, equipment, and jerseys to fellow riders in the community, ensuring that they continued to be enjoyed and put to good use.
Randy's impact on the lives of others is immeasurable. He forged countless lifelong friendships and left a lasting impression on many acquaintances. His warm spirit and genuine kindness resonated with all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in his wife; Joan, his daughters; Heather Esau, Vicki Lackman, and Sandra Lackman, and his adored grandchildren; Morgan Esau and Tara Esau. Randy's warm presence and generous spirit will be deeply missed by his family, who were his pride and joy.
In memory of Randy, donations can be made to the Canadian Institute for the Blind or the Alzheimer's Society, causes that were close to his heart. Randy's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and we hope his legacy of love and generosity will continue to inspire others.
