With heavy hearts, the family of Robert Alvin Dale Berg announces his peaceful passing on June 23, 2025, at approximately 4:30 AM. Bob, as he was fondly known, passed away at home in Surrey, British Columbia, surrounded by his loving family and close friends Debbie and Jerry, after a brave battle with cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, and pneumonia. He was 81 years old.
Born in 1943 in New Westminster, BC, Bob was the beloved son of Lilian Jean Featherby and Ernest Bertram Berg. He was predeceased by his siblings Garthina, and twins Joan and Jean. Bob spent his early years in Fort Langley, where he built lifelong friendships and cherished memories. He remained there until 1980 before moving to Surrey.
Bob served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1962 to 1965, a time he looked back on with pride. In the 1970s, he continued his spirit of service by volunteering as a firefighter at Hall 2 in Fort Langley. He also enjoyed playing baseball and took great joy in being part of the local community.
Bob spent much of his career working for Stella-Jones, a logging company that manufactures treated wood products. He took pride in his work and the role he played in the industry, and he retired in 2004 after many dedicated years with the company.
A devoted and loving father, Bob raised four children; Todd (wife Rose), Shawn Berg (wife Sheila), Michael (wife Nicole), and daughter Laurie (husband Curtis). He had six grandchildren; Kelsie, Taylor, Vanesha (husband Bryce), Stephan (wife Ashley) Marcus and Emma. Eight great-grandchildren; Justin, Luke, Kali, Zayne, Chase, Oliver, Mason, and Connor.
Bob was a proud lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 229, where he gave generously of his time, particularly during the Remembrance Day Poppy Drive. He found joy and connection in volunteering and built deep friendships through the Legion. Whether enjoying music, dancing in his cowboy boots, or simply spending time with those he cared about, Bob lived with warmth and heart.
He was a loyal fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Vancouver Canucks, and he rarely missed a game. But more than anything, Bob will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to family, friends, and service. His presence was a gift, and his memory will be treasured by all who knew him.
A service to honor Bob’s life will be held at the Whalley Legion on July 26 at 2:00 PM. Parking is available in the underground garage located beneath the Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Royal Canadian Legion in his memory.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
