William David Burr
October 16, 1924 – October 7, 2021
Beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, William David Burr, known to most as “David” Burr, passed away early in the morning of October 7, 2021. He died peacefully in his sleep, falling gently into the Everlasting Arms of the Lord, in Langley, British Columbia, at the age of 96.
He and his wife Carol had just celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary on August 7, 2021. He is survived by his four children, Philip, Karen, Daniel and Kathryn, and their spouses; as well as a large family including 8 grand-children and 20 great-grandchildren.
David was a regular church-goer and had a strong Christian faith. He gave himself generously in a life of love and service; to his “sweetheart” Carol, his entire family, and also to the churches of greater Vancouver where he attended and served, including Glad Tidings Church and later other fine fellowships.
David’s life spanned an amazing era of modern life, from 1924 to 2021. He saw the Great Depression as a child, the Second World War, where as a young man he served in the Canadian army, and all the post-war developments in communications, transportation, space travel, the computer age and more.
His own experiences were equally diverse; he grew up in New Westminster, attended the University of British Columbia, and a Bible College in Saskatchewan, worked in Vancouver, first with his father Percival Burr, and later on his own, as a respected Realtor for Pemberton Realty.
He enjoyed sailing and exploring the waters of the Strait of Georgia with family and friends, on the family-owned yacht, the OHO. He held a certification in Piloting and Navigation from the Canadian Power Squadron, which he earned in 1974.
His children describe him as a true father, loving, protecting and guiding his family; giving them countless memories of laughter and happy times, family vacations, unforgettable Christmases and much more. He poured his life, his finances and his energy freely into his family, as well as into charitable work though his church.
His family misses him, but takes comfort through their faith in the knowledge that they shall meet again one day in heaven. His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; ... Enter into the joy of your lord.' – The Gospel of Matthew 25:21
