OBITUARY

Winona Mae Morgan

May 6, 1926 – August 6, 2024
Obituary of Winona Mae Morgan
IN THE CARE OF

Henderson's Langley Funeral Home

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother Winona Morgan on Aug. 6, 2024 at the age of 98. Mom was born May 6, 1926 in the family farm house in Killarney, MB to Cecil & Alma Dagg.

Mom was an only child but she was surrounded by her Uncles, Aunts, and cousins who lived on adjoining properties or nearby. Mom remembers helping her Mother milk 17 cows every morning and evening, 7 days a week. Also helping her feed a dozen men lunch who were the thressing crews helping get in the crops of wheat.

Mom was an avid gopher hunter, with the help of a couple of her girlfriends, who would snare gophers and get the .02 cent bounty for the tails which the government paid.

Mom remembers crawling out her second floor bedroom window during the winter because the snowdrifts came up that high. Also going to school with the team of horses, Bess and Snip, and then by sleigh and team come winter.

Mom received her education in Jacques and Killarney district schools. Mom then went to Winnipeg where she spent one year at Dominion Business College, and then worked for Manitoba Cooperative for 3 years.

In 1947, Mom followed her parents out to the West Coast and settled with them in Langley. She worked at the Royal Bank on Fraser Hwy in Langley for 3 years, followed by 3 years in New Westminster employed by the Department of Agriculture.

In 1953 she married our Father Jack Morgan (a Manitoba boy from the same area)

and they resided in New Westminster for that year, where their first son Kim was born in 1954. In this same year they relocated to Langley on 64th Ave. and built a new home beside our Grandparents Daggs property. Another son Brent followed in 1957 and then daughter Hollis in

1960. Together Mom and Dad ran a successful broiler farm, which is now known as Langley Meadows Park

At this point she was a homemaker and helped with the farm which was also named Braemar Acres because Dad raised registered Morgan horses as well as Welsh ponies and cattle. In 1973 Mom and Dad semi retired and built a new home on 240th St. and continued to raise horses and cattle under the Braemar Acres banner.

It was during this time Mom became very active with the Langley Hospital Ladies Auxillary (Otter district) When Dad passed away in 1989, the family farm was sold and Mom purchased her brand new condo in Langley city. She was on the top floor and had a beautiful view to the northeast.

Mom stayed very active with the Langley Memorial Ladies Auxillary, for 35 plus years, working at the hospital gift store and especially the Penny Pinchers thrift store, where she proudly looked after the jewelry section, working hours at home sorting, repairing and pricing. This may be because she had a life long affection for antiques and collectables.

Mom kept her health by walking everywhere around Langley city as she never drove. Mom loved to travel with her close friends and took bus tours all over Canada and the USA, she especially loved the Casino bus excursions which would hit numerous casinos over the course of the trip. She also ventured to Ireland and several cruises to Alaska. Mom had a special love of the Royal Family and the Queen, who she shared a birth year with. She also enjoyed watching old movies and of course the Acaamey Awards.

But Moms biggest thrill was being around family and during family get togethers, where she could be surrounded by her kids, and grandkids and then great grandkids.

She was active and living independantly right up to her admission to hospital on May 18. She was fortunate enough to celebrate her 98th birthday and Mothers Day with all her family with her while she was still healthy. She will be truly missed by all her family as she was our Rock,Confidant, and Matriarch, who loving y looked after us all these years, and will be forever watching over us.

Surviving her are sons Kim (Katherine, grandson Nick & Amanda and 2 great grandsons), Brent (Kellie, grandson Bryson & Danielle and great grandbaby on way, granddaughters Breanne, and Brooke, and by marriage Matthew and Samantha (McGuffin), and finally daughter Hollis.

Mom is also survived by former daughter- in- laws Donna Morgan and Lee Wood, plus cousins, neices, and nephews.

Predeased by her parents Cecil & Alma Dagg, and husband Jack Morgan.

A private family service will be held at Langley Lawn.
