
Henry Lee Bosshard, B.S., PH.G., B.M., M.D., age 98, died at home in Hackberry, AZ on February 26, 2012 of natural causes. He was born October 24, 1913 in Langley, Washington to the late Lydia Hunsiker Bosshard and Henry Bosshard who emigrated from Switzerland and pioneered the settlement of Langley. Henry loved boating and fishing, and built his own rowboat at the age of 12. As a youth, Henry contracted tuberculosis and was confined to bed for 6 years. He obtained his medical degree from Northwestern University in 1949. On May 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Suzanne van Hassent in Chicago, Ill.
Henry and Susan moved to Washington, and Henry practiced medicine in Bellevue, Connell, and Spokane, WA. In 1965 Henry was appointed to the Public Health Service and served as Chief Medical Officer at USPHS billets in New Orleans, Atlanta, Yorktown, and Tampa. Subsequently, Henry completed his Residency in Psychiatry at the age of 57 and served Veterans at hospitals at Downey, Ill. and Bay Pines, Tampa, Fla. for 18 years. Post retirement to Washington State, he and Susan resided in Ferndale where he enjoyed life on the Puget Sound, and practiced psychiatry locum tenens in nearby states. In 2002, Henry and Susan relocated to Hackberry, AZ. where they resided in close proximity to their son Bruce.
Henry is survived by his wife, Suzanne, his sons and their wives Loren and Donna Bosshard, Bruce and Melissa Bosshard, his daughter and her husband, Susan Janess(Jan) and Michael Lambiase, and his daughter Barbara Kness who assisted in caring for him in his latter years; eight grandchildren, Nicole (Shanna ) Riser, York Haven, PA, Leeann and Sally Bosshard of Olympia, WA, Michael Henry, Anthony (Tony ), and John Lambiase of Virginia Beach, VA, and Tyler and Skyler Bosshard of Hackberry, AZ ., and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Arnold, sisters Alice and Louise, and grandson Bradley.
