Alan Charles Maurer, loving, supportive, generous, devoted and strong husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather, 67, went to heaven on June 1, 2021.

Alan passed away peacefully at home in Eagle, Michigan after a long and hard battle with lung cancer, leading to several complications including heart failure, surrounded by numerous family and friends. Alan’s courage, determination, and sheer strength will forever be remembered and cherished by his family and those close to him.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, Mathias Maurer, mother, Nyra Scandling, mother-in-law, Mary Luttrell, brother, Daniel Maurer, brother in laws, James Michael Luttrell and Stephen Luttrell.

He left behind to carry on his legacy his loving wife, Cynthia (Cindy), children, Amanda Alvarez (Darrick), and Angela Maurer (Michael Clark), brother Matt Maurer (Janet), sister Trudy Cunningham, father-in-law James Edward Luttrell, grandchildren, Erikah, Abraham, and Gavin Alvarez, great-grandchild, Paisley Alvarez, sister in laws Sharon Ernest and Rhonda Luttrell, and many adoring nieces and nephews.

Alan was born on May 25, 1954, in Lansing, Michigan to Nyra Scandling and Mathias Maurer both of Lansing. He married the love of his life, Cynthia (Cindy) Luttrell of Lansing, on August 5, 1972. Alan and Cindy raised two amazing daughters, Amanda (Lansing, MI) and Angela (Tampa, FL) who will always remember his support, guidance, sense of humor and unconditional love. We hope we made you proud and continue to as you watch over us moving forward.

Alan started his career in forging and manufacturing at Melling Forging Company in Lansing, Michigan and was there until its closure. Alan continued in the forging industry retiring from Trenton Forging (Trenton, Michigan) in 2020. Where he will be remembered for his leadership, friendship, straight shooting, sense of humor and knowledge.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 5pm – 8pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave. Lansing, MI, 48912. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2021 10am (visitation), 11am (service) at Central Free Methodist Church, 828 N. Washington Ave., Lansing, MI 48906. There will be refreshments (outdoors) following the funeral service, details and location are being finalized.

"What do you want, John?" That was typically what Alan said to me when I would show up in his office. The truth is, I was usually there for a question or help figuring out a problem. A witty guy, that just about always had a common sense approach to how things should work. I will miss his great, sarcastic, sense of humor and we will all miss him around the shop.
