My Father Anton Matej Markovic unexpectedly passed away June 2, 2024, at 0245. He was born May 7, 1973 to his mother Tugomila Markovic and his father Matej Markovic. He was the 2nd oldest out of his brothers, Andreja (Andy) Matej Markovic, Richard Matej Markovic and Elie David Mathew Markovic.
My father was a student at Waverly High School where he received his diploma. A few years after his graduation he went into the United States Marine Corps. In Bootcamp he held the Billet of 2nd Squad Leader where he was the shortest of his entire platoon. Upon graduation from bootcamp my father went to MCT as his MOS was Heavy Vehicle Mechanic while his Secondary was Combat Engineer. Upon hitting the fleet, he was placed within the reserves where his contract specified him to be. He was part of the 6th Engineers Battalion out of Battle Creek. He served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, formerly known as Operation Iraqi Liberation. He was also part of the conflict in Afghanistan for a short time before being recalled to the states. Around these times my father would have been awarded Three Navy Achievement Medals for heroics in these conflicts. Though I am unable to report what he did to earn them, as I was unable to find the records pertaining to them. He left the armed services in 2003 at the rank of E-4 or Corporal.
My Father was most certainly a trying man but he had his moments. If my sister or I were ever in danger he would make it known that he would protect us. He was confident in his abilities, even years after his leaving of the service. However, once you become a Marine, you can never lose the title as it is a title that is earned, never given. He was a kind and compassionate man when it was required, while most of the time he was a wisecracking joker that wanted to make others smile or laugh with the most outrageous jokes and stories from when he was in the service.
Anton Matej Markovic is preceded in death by, Richard Matej Markovic and James Mccune. Anton Matej Markovic is survived by his brothers, Andreja Matej Markovic and his wife Stephanie Ferris, Elie David Mathew Markovic and his wife Allison Markovic, His children, Alexandria Yuri Markovic and Mirek Anton Markovic.
We all love ❤️ Anton and you will be missed!
His funeral will be held at 5:00 pm Friday June 14th with visitation from 4:00-5:00 pm at Gorsline-Runciman Tiffany Chapel, 3232 W. Saginaw Street, Lansing. Military honors will follow.
