Today is Easter Sunday.  Even though Betina was an existentialist, I want to honor her on this day.  

Ten years ago while still a sessional instructor at LCC she told me, “I teach students how to write.”  

I found a minor error in my previous entry, and in respect for this one of Betina's many roles and achievements, I am adding an errata and addendum:  “…She invited me to attend her 21st birthday dinner in Traverse City with her family then spent a few days showing me around her hometown, including taking me canoeing on the Au Sable River and visiting Grayling High School.  I felt much rewarded by her hospitality. …”

Rest in Peace Betina Bostick Henig.  I am certain that your soul is in Heaven.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of a sister, aunt, friend, or teacher.  My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief.

I first met Betina in the “Kant” Philosophy class at MSU in Spring quarter 1977, just before her 21st birthday.  We quickly became close friends.  She invited me to attend her 21st birthday dinner and spend a few days showing me around her hometown. 

I last heard from Betina in an email she sent me on December 21, 2011, shortly after she received her promotion to Adjunct Faculty.  She requested that I give her a recommendation on LinkedIn, the professional network.  It was a very touching act, and I wrote this for her:  “Betina was an intelligent, pleasant student and became a treasured friend.  I am happy with knowing of her success in becoming an Adjunct Professor and am delighted to be Linked In with her.”

I learned of her passing on March 18th, when I was reviewing on Facebook the membership of a newly formed Spartan Alumni group in Richmond, Virginia, and decided to search on her name.

I am deeply saddened by her passing.  I take conciliation in knowing, as two others stated in the Guest Book that “She deserves to be in Gods arms with her soul in Heaven.  I will pray for her soul and for her families comfort.”   (Steve DuMont).  And also “She now is with your father and brother in heaven and at peace. Rest in peace Betina,” (John and Charlene Blaine.)  Even though her students recognized her as an existentialist and an atheist, I am convinced that she went to heaven.

Betina was a courageous woman and a true philosopher; a person whose philosophical perspective makes it possible to meet trouble calmly. I was Betina's student last semester. She met with me personally every week to help me with with the study. She was so kind and enthusiastic. I never suspected she was seriously ill. Betina was so brave. She deserves to be in Gods arms with her soul in Heaven. I will pray for her soul and for her families comfort.

To Aunt Jeanette and my cousins, I was shocked when I learned about Tina today.  I didn't know she had been in a fight for her life.  My sympathies to all of you.  I'm glad I got to visit her once in Lansing when I was there.

I am so shocked and saddened to learn of Betina's passing. For many years we were colleagues in teaching philosophy at Lansing Community College. We had many pleasant and often useful conversations. She was a dedicated teacher and a true philosopher who was always willing to share her insights, knowledge and understanding with both her colleagues and her students. My deepest condolences to her family and friends for your loss. She was truly a wonderful person.

I can't quite believe this...please let me know if there will be a service in the summer (or whenever) and I will do my best to attend.  Heartbreaking...nothing else to say but that.  xoxo

Tina and I attended the same High School, I loved the quietness about her and treasured her as a friend.  I will miss her smile and wisdom  being in this world. I am so sorry.  I just saw Tina last summer and had a wonderful chat with her reminiscing about our youth.  She was loving and kind and I am so grateful that we shared a big hug and kiss when we said good-bye.  My deepest regrets to her family.

My beautiful,fun,sister braved the disease of cancer with courage,control & disbelief. This news is sad to me.  I remember the Henig girls very well, as children.  I used to baby sit for them at the Wakeley Bridge cottage...I'm sure they don't remember me, but my folks had the corner store, by the old school house, on NorthDown River Road. I was so very sorry to hear the news of Tina's passing. We were college roomates at MSU, and shared so much laughter together. She will always remain a very special person to me.

I am so sorry to hear of Tina's passing. I left Grayling long ago, but met some wonderful people, and have many fond memories. Claudia and I were classmates at GHS. I'll keep you all in my meditative thoughts.

I had Betina for Intro to Logic at Lansing Community College in 2002. She was an outstanding instructor who took the time to cater her teaching methodologies to each individual learner. I excelled in her class because of her dedication to each student. I continued to see her on campus years later and she always remembered me. My condolences to her family and friends. Betina and I met in college and quickly became close friends, I was thrilled to catch up with her again just a few short years ago.
