Betty Marie Elliott

Born to Richard and Mary Lowe, Betty graduated from Waverly High School in Lansing, Michigan, in 1967, and retired from Michigan State University in 2015. She embraced life with enthusiasm and filled her days with the things she loved most. An avid reader, she always had a book nearby and spent countless hours creating beautiful cross stitch projects. She looked forward to watching Hallmark movies with her best friend and treasured the laughter, companionship, and wine they shared. Music was also an important part of Betty's life. A talented saxophonist, she proudly performed with the Spartan Alumni Marching Band and participated in several community concert bands throughout the years.

A devoted Michigan State Spartan fan, Betty never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Green and White. Each basketball season, she looked forward to choosing her favorite player, proudly rooting for her "basketball boy" and following his successes throughout the season.

Above all else, Betty's greatest love was her family. She adored her granddaughter, Dylan, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. She also treasured her beloved granddogs and her cat, Daisy.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Kyrie Elliott (Jeff Tweedie); her son, Brent (Bobbi) Elliott; her granddaughter, Dylan Elliott; her siblings, Shirley (Ron) Fandrick, Trudy (Jeff) Beak, and Brandon Lowe; four nephews; and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness and friendship.

The void Betty leaves behind is immeasurable, but so is the legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories she leaves with those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed every day, but her family finds comfort in knowing she is finally at peace.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held on a date to be determined. Family and friends will be invited to gather, share memories, and honor a woman whose love touched so many lives. In keeping with Betty's lifelong Spartan spirit, she would love for those attending to wear Michigan State attire, or something casual other than traditional black. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michigan State University Spartan Marching Band (please find link below).
