Betty Jean Montgomery

Betty Jean Montgomery (Hawkins) passed away on November 4th, 2018.

She was born on December 6th, 1929 in Lansing Michigan to Albert and Florence Hawkins. She graduated from Lansing Eastern High School class of 1947. She married Marvin Montgomery on January 15, 1949. Betty worked for the Bank of Lansing and Oldsmobile. After her children were grown, Betty worked part time for Michigan State University and Baryames Cleaners. She was a long standing member of Emanuel First Lutheran Church in Lansing, and after moving to Battle Creek, was a friend of First Congregational Church. Betty enjoyed traveling with her husband Marvin. As her grandchildren grew, she could be found at all their concerts and sporting events.

Betty leaves behind two daughters, Marcia Claggett and Mary (Eric) Bird; grandchildren, Amy Claggett, Bradley Claggett, Kimberly Bird and Stephanie Bird.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Florence Hawkins; husband, Marvin Montgomery, and siblings, Marvin Hawkins, Marjorie Eddy and Howard Hawkins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 12pm until 1pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. A graveside service will follow at 1pm at Evergreen Cemetery in Lansing.
