Betty Smith

Lansing

Age 76, our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away October 2, 2009. Born July 13, 1933 in Lansing, MI. Betty retired from the State of Michigan as Director of Railroad Rates and Tariffs. Betty graduated in 1951 from Sexton High School and attended M.S.U. and L.C.C. She volunteered at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing Hospice, Yesterday?s Youngsters, Meals on Wheels, and as a Docent in the public schools. She loved metaphysical and spiritual exploration and development, and she had an eye for beauty and was a wonderful interior decorator. She loved to travel to spiritually significant cities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Smith in 1979, and her parents, Phillip H. and Margaret ?Dot? Anderson.

Surviving are 4 children, Steven M. (Cynthia Struthers) Smith of Carthage, IL, Carol Ann DeRose, Cheryl Lynne Vommero, and Lee Ann Bauer all of Lansing, MI; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Smith, Mary Smith, Justin Jardine, Sarah Bauer, Victoria Bauer, Peter DeRose, Gina DeRose, Amy Peter, Angie Swix, and Theresa Vommero; 2 great-grandchildren, Rachel Peters and Troy Adams.

Memorial Services 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 6, at the First United Methodist Church, 3827 Delta River Dr., Lansing with Pastor Melanie Baker-Streevy officiating.

Interment will be in Deepdale Memorial Park.

Contributions may be made to the Sparrow Home Hospice.
