Blanca Abella Baker was a beloved wife and mother. Blanca was born in Carrigara, Philippines; she came to the United States to pursue her educational and professional dreams. She met her husband David at a hospital in Kansas, where they worked together in a hospital lab. Blanca worked at Olin Health Center at Michigan State University, where she retired in 2005. She enjoyed working with students and being part of their healthcare educational training. Many remember Blanca for her generous, kind nature, and especially for her famous homemade egg rolls. She and David provided financial assistance for numerous family members in the Philippines, for education, housing, and health care. In return, she only asked for them to get good grades and jobs after graduation. She leaves behind her husband of 43 years, David Baker, daughter Gretchen Golladay and her husband Josh, six siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews all over the world. A memorial mass will be held at St. John Church and Student Center on Saturday, 12/20 at 2pm. Blanca will be laid to rest in Palo, Philippines with her father, mother, step mother, and sister Mercy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts to help rebuild Blanca’s beloved home town: https://www.unicefusa.org/donate/help-save-lives-children-philippines.
