Cecelia Wesley was born in Buffalo, New York, on 6/11/1943 to William and Mae Rellor Butler, who preceded her in death. Affectionately known as Ceal, Cece, Mom, Gamma, Granny, Sister, and Friend, she answered many names—but all of them were spoken with love.
Though small in stature, Cecelia stood tall in spirit, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She dedicated over 30 years of service to General Motors before retiring, but her true life’s work extended far beyond her career. Cecelia was a pillar of her community—opening her home and heart as a licensed foster parent, caring for hundreds of children over the years. Many found not just temporary shelter, but a permanent place in her life, as she became an adoptive mother in both name and in love.
Her compassion did not stop there. Cecelia was a tireless advocate for the underserved and the homeless, always seeking ways to uplift those in need. Her spiritual gift was giving, and she lived it daily—freely offering whatever she had, even if it meant giving the shirt off her back.
Cecelia was truly a gem. She loved deeply, gave generously, and lived a life that reflected kindness, strength, and unwavering faith.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 65 years, Clifford Sr.; her sister, Diane (Fred) Jenkins; her children, Clifford Jr., Willie, Lorenda (Marc), Nicole, Montreal (Jennifer), Erica, Devon, Charae and Nila and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored.
Her legacy of love and generosity will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
A Celebration of Life for Cece will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Lansing Chapel, 900 E Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912.
