Charles LaVerne Aikens was born June 16, 1937 in Lansing, Michigan. Charles graduated from Lansing Sexton High School in 1955. After high school Charles was employed by General Motors (Fisher Body). From that job he went on to work at the sporting goods store Vandevoort. In 1959 he met and later married the love of his life Alfreda Jackson. Charles worked at the Universal Steel Company before retiring.
Charles' true passion was watching basketball and football. He enjoyed watching the Michigan State Spartans, the Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Lions play every season. He loved betting with his children on who would win. Whomever lost had to cook dinner for the winner.
Charles was preceded in death by: his father, Robert Aikens; mother, Lola Mae Kemp; brother, Joseph Aikens; his sister, Tamara Jean Aikens; and his wife, Alfreda Jackson.
Charles went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 15, 2011. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: daughter, Cheryl Rene'e (Bryan L. Wade/Special Friend) Aikens; son, Charles LaVerne Aikens, Jr.; son, Robert Kevin Aikens; daughter, Darleen Denise Williams; son, Anthony Lamont (Joyce) Aikens; son, Brian Eugene (Shannon) Aikens; daughter, Lolisha Anne Aikens. 18 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemary Aikens of Lansing; Deloris Aikens of Lansing; four brothers, Thomas Aikens of Lansing; Andrew (Jean) Aikens of Lansing; Gerald (Cookie) Aikens of Detroit; and Tyroe (Joi) Aikens of Marietta, Georgia and a host of cousins, nieces nephews and friends.
