Charles Caruso

of Lansing, MichiganOur loving husband, father and grandfather died peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. Charles was born June 6, 1930 in Fremont, Michigan and was the son of Sam and Julia (Fabiano) Caruso. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1952 and married the love of his life, Emma Spagnuolo in 1956. Charlie grew up working for the family candy and ice cream business ?Famous Caruso?s Candies? in Fremont, Michigan. He moved his family to Lansing in 1962 to begin working for the State of Michigan, primarily in the Department of Civil Service. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a platoon leader and finance school instructor. Charlie?s greatest joy came from being with his family. He looked forward to the yearly summer vacations and gathering everyone together before Christmas to make candy. His second love and favorite topic of conversation was Notre Dame football. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Emma; children, Bob (Kathleen) Caruso, Julie (Andy) Jakimcius, Debbie (Jack) Voegler, Nancy (Joe) Murphy; grandchildren, Charlie and Robbie Caruso, Maria and Anna Jakimcius, Daniel and Kellie Voegler, Joe, David and Samantha Murphy; mother-in-law, Rosaria Spagnuolo; aunts, Esther Young, Virginia Bonfiglio; in-laws, Lorraine (John) Canavan, Paul Spagnuolo, Jerry (Paula) Spagnuolo; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Sammy; parents, Sam and Julia Caruso; and father-in-law, Stanislas Spagnuolo. Visitation will be 2-4, 6-8PM Thursday, June 12, 2008 with a 7PM Rosary at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing 48917. The Funeral Mass will be 11:00AM Friday, June 13, 2008 at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 815 Sparrow Avenue, Lansing 48910 with visitation from 10-11AM at the church. Father Bill Lugger, officiating. The Rite of Committal will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to IHM-St. Casimir School, 800 W. Barnes Avenue, Lansing, 48910 in memory of Charles.
