

Christine Louise Person (McAfee), age 95, died on Saturday, June 29, 2024. She was born in Applegate, MI on October 2, 1928 to John and Christine McAfee. She grew up on the family farm in Applegate. She met the love of her life, John Person, at the Lutheran Student Center in Ann Arbor during a talent show where she sang "Frankie and Johnny" and he played the "William Tell Overture" on his throat with a toothbrush. She earned her BS in Nursing from the University of Michigan, and she worked as an RN until she was 81! She was married to John Person for 63 years at the time of his death, and together they raised five children in Lansing. They also spent many summers at their home in AuTrain, MI in the UP.
She loved sewing, and with her church group they made thousands of quilts that were donated to World Relief. She loved music and sang and danced every day of her life. She loved trout fishing and picking blueberries in the UP, and she kept secret to all but a select few the best spots for both. She loved U of M Sports, especially football in the Big House, and she loved the Detroit Tigers her entire life.
She loved her family most of all. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine (Graundstadt) McAfee; her husband, John H. Person; her firstborn child, John C. Person; her brothers, Henry (Marie) McAfee, John (Isolde) McAfee, and David (Donna) McAfee; her sisters, Virginia (Robert) Richmond and Barbara McAfee; and her son-in-law, Charles Lauer. She is survived by her children, James (Cindy) Person, Margaret Lauer, Andrew Person, and Elizabeth (Edward) Goldberg. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Laura (Rob) Kwiecien, Margaret Person (Danny Sexton), Matthew Lauer (Leeann Drees), Jeffrey Person, Zoe Person, Thor Person, Christopher Person, and Jacquelynn Person; her great grandchildren, Mason Kwiecien, Gavin Kwiecien, Patrick Sexton, and Theo Sexton; many nieces and nephews; and her singing and dancing friend, Chris Slack.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm on Friday, July 5th at Gorsline-Runciman Tiffany Chapel, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, July 6th at 12 noon at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 517 S. Clinton, Grand Ledge, MI with Pastor Chuck Foerster officiating. Viewing will be from 11 am to noon Saturday at the church.
