

Chris was born on May 6, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan to Arthur and Ollie Brown. He graduated from Cass Tech HS in 1964, where he played tennis and was on the swim team. He attended Wayne State University and played football. He then transferred to Michigan State University and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He earned his BA, MA and PhD (ABD) from MSU. Then the adventures began!!
He started his career as a Math teacher, moving into principal positions in Costa Rica and Saudi Arabia after receiving his Master’s Degree and PhD ABD in Education. He then shifted into the corporate arena where he successfully served as a training and organizational development consultant both within the U.S. and overseas, specializing in cross-cultural relations.
Chris lived life with a boundless passion for adventure. Whether riding his motorcycle on open roads, exploring remote corners of the globe, or savoring the flavors of exotic cuisine, he was always seeking new experiences. A true wanderer at heart, Chris reveled in immersing himself in different cultures, learning new languages, and discovering the beauty of the world. But no matter how far his travels took him, he always returned with a deep love for connecting with his family and friends. His infectious spirit and zest for life left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
Chris is survived by his daughter, Heidi Woodard and son, Gerald Brown, both of North Carolina; four grandchildren, a sister, Marti Poorman of Lansing, Michigan; and spouse Kasey Knight of Melbourne, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Gorsline-Runciman Tiffany Chapel in Lansing on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, with a time of sharing at 10:15 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to a local food pantry or Heifer International.
