OBITUARY
Christy Lynn Wiley
April 29, 1979 – February 15, 2021
Christy Lynn Wiley, 41, passed away far too soon on Monday, February 15, 2021. She was born on April 29, 1979 in Lansing to Larry and Connie (Ankney) Owens, and spread love, light, and learning throughout her short time on Earth.
The consummate teacher, Christy had a kind, gentle way of teaching others; indeed, it was often said that Christy was destined to be a teacher even from childhood. During high school and college at Michigan State University, Christy was a beloved caregiver at a local daycare run by Sharon Showerman. After graduating, she taught a number of different elementary grade levels and she taught most recently at Attwood School in Lansing, where her work as a sixth grade teacher left an impression on many students.
Christy was outgoing and fun, up for any challenge or outing. She enjoyed spending days at the park with her own children and serving as the "adopted aunt" for countless others. Family was deeply important to Christy, and she spent much of her time caring for family members - whether in visits, calls, texts, or Facetime check-ins.
She was preceded in death by her dear family friend and mentor, Sharon Showerman; her Grandpa Owens; and her Grandma and Grandpa Ankney.
Christy's loving and gentle spirit will be long remembered by her husband of 20 years, Roger Wiley Jr.; her children, Cheyenne, Jacob, and Emma; her parents; her siblings, Larry (Dawn) Owens II and Tammie (Ervin) Campbell; and her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and adopted family members and students.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave. in Lansing from 3pm until 6pm. Masks are required, and social distancing will be in effect.
A private family funeral and interment will be held. The services will be available to view online on Tuesday, February 23 at 11am through the funeral home Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GorslineLansing/

Mrs. Wiley was my 6th grade teacher. I remember that everyday in her class was always fun and exciting. Even on the first day, the lesson was nice, and helped me actually talk to people and make friends. I would always be doodling in class, and she encouraged me to keep getting better. She was a remarkable human being, and I hope to make art just as beautiful as she was.

From the time I started at Attwood from Reo, Christy and I were twins!
I am an African-American 72-year-old grandma and how people called us by each others names ...we never figured it out, all we would do is just laugh people would call her Ms Abi and other people would call me Mrs Wiley... staff as well as students❗️She was my blessing and I’ll see her someday again in our Heavenly home!

Christy was my student intern many years ago and I also later worked with her at Attwood Elementary. I have many fond memories of her. She was always such a loving and caring person always there to step up and pitch in when needed. She loved her family beyond measure and was always so proud of them. She was dedicated to her profession and showed great compassion and empathy to the students under her care always pushing them to be their best. She will be dearly missed!

Roger, Cheyenne, Jacob, Emma...
Even though I didn't know her well, Christy always made me strive to be more curious about life & learning. As she told me, just because we get older doesn't mean we should ever stop learning or trying to enrich our minds.
My sincerest condolences on your loss.
My heart goes out to all of you as you go thru this incredible heartbreaking time.
Love,
Angie

She is still watching over us, cheering us on and smiling at us...but now she gets to do it with all her loved ones and cats that have gone before her. When you miss her, just look up and listen, she is still saying she is proud of you.

I had the priviledge of working with Chrity for the past 3 years at Attwood New Tech as one of her co-teachers. Christy was larger than life! She was always working on something that would help her become the National Teacher that she wanted to be. She had the best sense of humor and would entertain everyone, especially during lunch. She was always talking about Roger and the kids with such pride and joy. I wished there was something to say that would make it easier but there is nothing. She was way too young and I will miss her.

I don't have any pictures but I will start my saying that I'm praying for the family of Christy in these times. I was a kid who had daycare at Sharon Showermans home now almost 15 years ago or so. Christy used to help me with my school work, and would teach me while she was watching me at Sharon's. I'll never forget her spending the time with me to help me with my studies when I struggled so much as a kid, which helped me in my academics into high-school and college. She lives through me by giving me the inspiration to help others even when I don't have a reason too. She helped a kid with school and learning when it wasn't even her responsibility to do so and I'll cherish her forever for that. I hope I can make an impact on someone's life as she has mine. I miss you Christy, fly high and we'll all see you soon. Love Josh.
