Cleofas Ortega

Lansing, MI

Born in Eagle Pass, Texas, April 9, 1948 and gone to be with the Lord April 3, 2013. The daughter of Jose and Margarita Gomez, she was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfonso Ortega Jr., her son Jacob Lee Ortega, and siblings: Maria Segura, Francisca (Kika) Ortiz, Jose Maria (Chema) Gomez Sr., Carolina Espinoza, and Jose Luis Gomez. Cleofas is survived by two daughters: Joey-L Gomez and Jamie Ortega, grandchildren: Alonna Gomez, AnnaLia Bynes, and Anthony Bynes, and her siblings: Carmen (Chila) Bonilla, Domingo Gomez Sr., Maria Winnie, Susie Quesada, Gloria Solis and Eva Melo.

Cleofas loved spending time with her family, music, dancing, and was very active in her church home at Cristo Rey. Cleofas had countless numbers of friends and family and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She always accepted people with open arms, and without judgement. You could often find her watching classic TV shows, collecting jalapeno peppers, and attending the singles dances at Hawk Hollow.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to her daughter, Joey-L Gomez to assist with funeral expenses. A Funeral Mass will be held at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 201 W. Miller Rd, Lansing, on Tuesday, April 9th, at 11:00AM. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday, April 8th, from 2:00-4:00PM & 6:00-8:00PM, with the Rosary being prayed at 7:00PM. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes.
